What did I do/buy this weekend? (March 17-18, 2018)

Heya’ everybody! Sorry for the late update! Lots of stuff happened that left me too exhausted to write, but let me get everyone caught up! Come and see what I did this weekend! ๐Ÿ™‚

On Saturday, LOCMom and I decided to hit up a church garage sale! It was what I feared though… the church in town is the one I dislike a lot next to the massive cult church in our town that I hate the most. I will not say my reasonings for disliking the church, but I do detest it greatly. So if I was going to buy something from their garage sale, it had better be a good something or something I need! But when we went to it, we didn’t find a thing. Lots of kids stuff there. And the clothes were piled on top of each other, so it was hard to look through those. We left with nothing. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Then I was back at the house and was reading my new book, ‘Salt Sugar Fat’. This particular book is a health book about the food industry and how they use the ingredients fat, sugar, and salt to make their food products addicting and to keep people coming back for more every time. It’s pretty scary… Like, I learned that kids like sweeter things than adults, so food companies put more sugar in food products marketed to kids to keep them eating it and eating it. Pretty sneaky! ๐Ÿ˜ก And soda companies like Coke call people who drink a lot of their products ‘heavy users’ instead of referring them as just soda drinkers. Scary… So yeah, this book has never ending information about food and drink companies that use salt, fat, and sugar to get people addicted to their edible products. Since I never buy soda or your typical junk food besides chocolate chips or homemade sweets, the book has been eye opening. Highly recommend giving it a read if you are concerned about the food environment around you! ๐Ÿ™‚

Also on Saturday, LOCMom wanted to make enchiladas using a very tasty recipe which can be found here! Guys, this enchilada recipe along with the enchilada sauce this food blogger uses is THE BEST EVER! So yummy and tasty. โค Highly recommend you make soemtime! ๐Ÿ™‚ Anyway, so we made this recipe and invited LOCAuntV over for an enchilada. She then came over and ate one and thought they were as good as always! ๐Ÿ˜€ I make great enchiladas thanks to this recipe. โค Definitely a keeper!

After LOCAuntV left after we were done visiting, I read my Salt Sugar Fat book and then went to bed! Didn’t really shop a lot this weekend in general, so no spending today! ๐Ÿ™‚

Money Spent on Saturday

Total Amount Spent: $0.00

On Sunday, things were also quiet, but I did have some of LOCMom’s chili! Mmmmm… So good! โค I then went and read my Salt Sugar Fat book again to see if I could get close to finishing it. Turns out that this book has never ending information about the food and drink industry in it, so it will take a while for me to read all of it. ๐Ÿ™‚ Then during the night, I did my April budget for next month, but as the month carries on, some things are bound to get changed in it. Just how it goes…

Money Spent on Sunday

Total Amount Spent: $0.00

So, yup! No money spent this weekend! I think I may have spent a little on Saturday, but I threw out my receipts already after logging them. My bad, ya’ll. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Will have reciepts saved for the next Weekend Update though! ๐Ÿ™‚

But… to finish things off, I recently bought this cool lamp from Goodwill, but I have one issue with it…

eyes

Am I the only one that sees the eyes in the pattern? Yeah, too retro and alien-ish for me, so I got another idea from a PF/frugal blogger that I follow and that idea was to paint it! I think LOCMom volunteered to spray paint it for me while I just wanted to use a regularย paint brush since I am not good with spray painting things, so we will see what happens. ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s going to be a white lamp shade, ya’ll! ๐Ÿ˜€

How was your weekend?

  1. I’ll have to give “Salt, Sugar, Fat” a read. It’s crazy what companies do to hook people! Also, I don’t know what context they’re using it, but “heavy user” is a standard marketing phrase that we use to rank people’s consumption on a scale. I’m a heavy user of your blog, for example. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. Ah, I see! In the book, they define the term “heavy user” as people who are soda addicts or addicted to processed food prouducts. ๐Ÿ™‚ But I can see how it could be a marketing phrase as well!

Yes, the book is pretty crazy. I don’t think there is any bias poliitcal aisle wise either in it because it talks about numerous members of each political party in it in a revealing light on what they have to do with the food industry or what they have commented on about it. Will have to read more to find out for sure, but I’m around page 100, so yeah. *shrugs* o .o

  2. I used to be a heavy user of Coke Zero, like 3-4 cans a day! It made me crave more sweetness. Iโ€™m not cured-Iโ€™ve replaced it with 2-3 cups of coffee a day with, yes, 3 packets of Splenda in each cup. ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ I try to drink a lot of water. I have a lot of work to do in this area!

    1. Don’t feel too bad, I used to drink a lot of Pepsi as a teenager. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ LOCMom said I was addicted to it because I drank so much of it and I could see why now. But one day, I stopped drinking Pepsi and a few weeks later, I tried it again and it tasted too sweet. It was then and there I decided to quit soda cold turkey and I have not touched it since. ๐Ÿ™‚ My “soda” now is basically chocolate. I do like See’s Candy chocolate and Guitard’s milk chocolate chips a lot, so that is what I usually eat if I am craving sugar.

Now I see soda as being kid freindly cigerettes since it has so much sugar in it and is so bad for you. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ People have every right to drink it, but I wish they wouldn’t. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ
