May 2018 Budget Check-In!

Hey everybody! I know I should have put something up on my blog during the week, but I have been getting bad at that. 😦 Will try to fix things next week! But today’s blog post is my Monthly Budget Check-In! Come and see how I spent all of my money in May! πŸ˜€

So before we began, I must tell all of you that I spent ALL OF TEH MONEY in May. I mean, I only had like 10 bucks left at the end of the month… O _O;;; Boy, was that ever slim picking. But that is okay because Social Security wants me to spend all of my money and that is what I did, haha. πŸ˜›

So let’s see how I did in May! πŸ™‚

Bills/Rent: $500.00

Required monthly 500 bucks that I pay each month that goes toward rent and bills.

Activities: $25.00

Had a haircut this month, but I forgot to tip my hair dresser accidently when I went in… But I didn’t forget about it though! This month, I gave my hair dresser 5 bucks for May’s tip that LOCMom gave her. πŸ™‚ LOCMom said she appreciated it! πŸ˜€

Medication: $0.00

I probably forgot to add this category up this month. Oops… 😦 But next month, things will be different!

Groceries: $72.78

Woot woot! A low grocery bill! I’m always getting my stuff at the Frugalpants Grocery Store now, so things are never too high in this category here. πŸ™‚ Bought a watermelon from Costco last month as well, but it was money wasted since I couldn’t eat it all at once and they only last for 3 days in the fridge. Oh well, lesson learned. 😦 Never again unless I need it for a party or something! > _<;;;

Household Expenses: $148.05

This was my largest category of spent money this month, I’m afraid. Man, can I ever spend! But most of it was pretty much needed. I’ll break down the most costly expenses in this category below. πŸ™‚

Nail Buffers: So I went on Amazon and got me some nail files that are a combination nail buffer! I bought a bulk size of them for $11.99, which is an EXCELLENT deal seeing as how ONE FREAKIN’ nail filer in Sally’s Beauty Supply sells for around 6 bucks each! Crazy! > _<;;; But alas, I discovered something at Dollar Tree as well! They also sell the blocky kind of nail buffers that I like, but for a buck each! Couldn’t believe I didn’t see them there before… So as soon as my Amazon nail buffers are used up, and that won’t be until a while, I will just buy my nail buffers at Dollar Tree from now on. πŸ™‚ It’s amazing what you can find at the dollar store! Plus, I tested out Dollar Tree’s blocky nail buffer and even though it didn’t work as well as the blocky nail buffer I bought on Amazon for around 6 bucks, it still got the job done! I was pretty impressed. πŸ™‚ Btw, stay away from Wal-Mart’s blocky nail buffer in their beauty section; it’s a piece of crap. : |

Clothing:Β Yes, I bought some needed clothing this month. I first bought two pairs of capris to be quite honest I don’t remember buying… But hey, they were on the budget sheet this month, so I must have bought them at Goodwill at some point. *shrug emoji* Then, lacking a great party dress, I had to pony up 26 bucks for a dress at Ross that I think I showed in one of my Weekend Updates to all of you guys already. πŸ™‚ If I can’t buy it used at Goodwill, it’s always to a discount store or Wal-Mart for clothing! I also bought some cute denim shorts from Ross as well along with some new underwear! This underwear I bought I basically use as disposable underwear except for the prettier panties I bought which I will wear regularly throughout the month. πŸ™‚ Each package of underwear was under 10 bucks at Wal-Mart for 6 pairs of underwear per package, so not too shabby!

Pyrex Lids (6-pack): So one of my Pyrex plastic lids decided to break on me, so I needed a new one. But I opted for a 6 pack of the same lid that broke on Amazon so I will always have them on hand for the future! They were around 8 bucks for 6 lids, so not too bad!

Tums: Bought a medium sized bottle of Tums that were smoothie berry flavored. Couldn’t find a bulk sized bottle of the smoothie berry flavored Tums, so the medium one had to do. 😦 Will be on the lookout for the bulk sized bottle this month though. πŸ™‚

And I think that is it for this month’s pricey household goods. πŸ™‚

Misc. Items: $80.44

Not bad for this category! Ever since I split up the Household Goods category from the Misc. Items category, this category has been much cheaper! I bought a few items from Goodwill this month, birthday presents for family, and even some fun purchases like 3 new purses from Kohls and other thrift stores; all under 10 bucks of course and best of all, these purses were all designer and REAL. ;D Yeah, I think I am about done buying purses… My closet is full of cute crossbody purses now that I will all use eventually. *laugh/cry emoji* I also found some t-shirts at a church rummage sale for only 50 cents a pop! Couldn’t try them on when I bought them, so when I tried them all on at home, some I had to get rid of due to poor fit issues. 😦 I kind of like clothes now that I do not have to hand wash, so my style has changed quite a bit, haha. ❀

Entertainment: $27.59

Keeping this category under $40 now, not $30! Will be cancelling my Crunchyroll subscription again since I just don’t watch anime a lot on it anymore, but will renew for 7 bucks if I get desperate, haha. πŸ˜› Also had to have a music CD of a song I have always wanted that I am going to be ripping to my iTunes music playlist! Here is the English version of the song I been wanting to have for so long!Β I will have the Japanese version of the song soon enough if the CD I ordered doesn’t get roasted in the mailbox first from the heat. : | That better not happen; I will be so mad! 😑

Eating Out: $15.94

Not bad for this category! I guess I ate in a lot this month, haha. πŸ˜€ The largest purchase I had in this category was a HUUUUUGE rotisserie chicken that I ran across for around 10 bucks at the Spendypants Grocery Store. I mean, this thing was bigger than your average rotisserie chicken, it was like… GIANT! O _O I had to have it. And it was quite tasty! πŸ˜€

Budgeted Items: $6.00

I must have forgotten to log my Costco groceries here because only my Dollar Tree purchase is present. Or I just didn’t go to Costco last month? Anyway, this category is pretty dang low, which is really awesome! πŸ˜€

And the grand total is… *drum roll* Β

Total Amount Spent: $875.80

Whew! What a crazy month! Right down to the wire budget wise! But in June, things have been a little different! I’m actually pretty happy with this month and the coming month ahead and will give the good news in my Weekend Update soon!

How was your May 2018?

  1. Do you have a Dollar General in your area? I have good luck buying health and beauty stuff there. They have good prices on things like nail files, aspirin, tums, soap, etc. It’s not my favorite store (still love Dollar Tree) but sometimes their prices are actually better than DT.

    1. We just got a Dollar General and I thought it was just okay. πŸ˜€ We have a discount grocery store in our town already (the Frugalpants Grocery Store, or Winco), so I buy all of my hygiene supplies there. πŸ™‚ But I will definitely look for nail buffers at Dollar General the next time I go! Great idea! πŸ˜€

  2. Forgot Tipping your hairdresser? Gee I don’t tip mine, of course hubby has been cutting my hair for me since we first stated dating and has been doing it for me ever since. I get my hair cut every other month and it doesn’t cost me a penny, so I save hundreds a year. I guess that makes me super frugal in that area.

    1. Well, iI would consider yourself to be a very blessed women if you have a hubby who loved you too much to see you give 30 bucks a month away to a hair salon. πŸ™‚ Not everyone has that option. πŸ™‚ You are one lucky lady! πŸ˜€

      Thank you for the comment!
