January 2019 Budget Check-In

Hey, everybody! Time for January 2019’s Budget Report! Things were incredibly spendy in January, so all of my money was spent! I’m being pretty careful this February as well, but things are spendy in February as well it seems… T _T

But anyway, come and see how all of my money was spent in January 2019!

Rent/Bills: $500.00

This amount of money I pay that goes towards rent and bills each month.

Activities: $0.00

Woot woot! In the clear agin! LOCMom is helping me pay for my haircuts now, so thank you, LOCMom! ^ _^

Groceries: $169.38

This category is higher now that I am adding Costco food I buy to it. Items featured in this category are some of my more spnedier, but needed items which consist of Quest Bars, Cuties Mandarins (Costco bulk produce), Kirkland Brand meatballs, sparkling water, and healthy snacks like Kirkland applesauce pouches and Pita Chips (Costco bulk bag).

If anyone is wondering, ‘Kirkland Brand’ anything is a Costco bulk item that I buy to get a better deal on food that will last me throughout the month from the bulk store Costco. ๐Ÿ™‚ The food I buy is bought in bulk, so it lasts me quite a long time, or at least a month. ^ _^

However, I cannot really do Quest Bars in February and my success in finding replacements for them in Costco has been unsuccessful, so we will see what happens in March. :’C But maaaaaan, I will probably never see that 4 for $5.00 Quest Bars deal I got at Sprouts ever again. xD

Household Expenses: $153.70

Man, I thought this category would be WAAAAAY higher! But I am surprised!

I bought a lot of household items last month because many were needed and I shipped off a few packages. ๐Ÿ™‚

Here are a few items that I bought!

Circular Cable Travel Pouches – I have always been meaning to find a great way to transport my charging cables and these little circular pouches will come in handy when traveling! They each even have a netted compartment for the plug part the cable inserts into! Pretty sweet, huh? ^ _^ Bought three of them because that was all I needed. ๐Ÿ™‚

Black Anti-Pitpocketing Travel Bag – I have been thinking about buying one of these if I was ever at a convention or just at an event in general where there may be a chance someone would try to target my debit card, identity, or what-not, so I decided to buy a RFID Protected travel bag! And this bag was at a discount store, so this Thrift Store Golden Rule rule apply to them as well: If you see something you like in a discount store, buy it! The bag was only $8.00-ish dollars, so I went for it! ๐Ÿ™‚ I really do like it a lot and I am happy that I bought it in the long run!

Black Card Protector Wallet – And for a little added safety, I also bought a card RFID protector wallet for my cards. This wallet is too awesome because Minimalist Me is so happy that I could kick my bulky wallet out of my purse and just replace it with a plastic card protector wallet! I now use a small makeup bag for my paper currency and metal change. ^ _^

If I decide that I will not be using my bulky wallets anymore in the future, I will probably donate them to my new place where I am going to be volunteering at! Can’t wait to get started at my new volunteer job! But I will probably keep one or two of my bulkier wallets just in case… but that decision is still up in the air for me. D:

Small Gray Shower Rug – So my large gray Costco shower rug has always kept getting dirty because the catbox is right next to it and LOCKitty Amelia is very messy when doing her business in her catbox, so my shower rug kept getting filthy with cemented cat sand! > _<; So… I had to buy a smaller shower rug at Tuesday Morning (another discount store) and so far, so good! I only had to shake my new shower rug off every now and then, and it has been very manageable so far! ^ _^

Gorilla Wood Glue – And wouldn’t you know! One of my night stand drawer knobs broke off, so I had to buy some Gorilla wood glue to fix the knob. > _< This was kind of an emergency purchase, so now in case anything wood-ish breaks around the house/apartment, I will be ready to fix it, haha. ๐Ÿ˜€

Misc. Items: $115.95

Ah yes… the Misc. Items category. Lots of Goodwill purchases here this month, and unlabeled to boot so I don’t know what I exactly bought… But I will be better about listing what I purchased from Goodwill this month so I can properly review this category. In my defense, I was feeling terrible in January on many days, so that is why I did not list everything that I purchased from Goodwill on my budget sheet. Not like Goodwill receipts help to identify items you bought at their store either… – ___- But yes, I am hoping February I will not be such a Spendypants in this category. :C Or be a Spendypants that does not list everything that they bought at Goodwill like back in January…

Entertainment: $5.99

I believe in those Goodwill purchases in the ‘Misc. Items’ category, I bought a few CDs as well to rip to my iTunes music playlist and they would go here in this category, but alas, I didn’t label my Goodwill purchases correctly in January, so I cannotย remember how many CDs that I purchased… :C The number was under 10 I am sure….. But $5.99 was the grand total this month for this category; Subscription fees to The New York Times and Shonen Jump make up the grand total in this category all together. ๐Ÿ™‚

Eating Out: $11.00

Not too bad here! I believe my most pricey expense here was $5.00 sushi from Sprouts. ^ _^ I still prefer Spendypants Grocery Store, or Safeway sushi though. ๐Ÿ˜›

Budgeted Items: $0.00

I’m in the clear for January and this category will be discontinued from now on in future Budget Reports (see first part of post).ย ๐Ÿ™‚

And the grand total this month comes to…

*drum roll*

Grand Total: $956.02

See? What did I tell ya’? Spendy! O _O February is shaping up to be another spendy month as well, but I’m making things work, darn it! > _<;

How was your January 2019 Budget?

December 2018 Budget Check-In!

Hey everybody!

OMAAAHGAWWWD… This should have been posted during the beginning of the month, but I was feeling pretty terrible emotionally-wise, so I just never got around to it. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ ย But I will be posting it now! ๐Ÿ˜€

Starting with this month and beyond, I will be removing the ‘Budgeted Items’ category off the budget report since I am using my debit card full blast instead of taking bills out individually and using the Envelope System. This has been a recent change for me since I have figured out how to wire money to LOCMom from my online bank account. ๐Ÿ™‚ I will also be putting my Costco food items in the “Groceries” category from now on as well because of this recent change. ^ _^

But anyway, let’s get started! Come and see what I spent last December! ^ _^

Rent/Bills: $500.00

$500 for bills and rent. I’m required to pay this much every month.

Activities: $0.00

I’m in the clear here! ๐Ÿ˜€

Groceries: $119.64

I think that this amount is really good! What really shot up my expenses was that I bought around 31 Quest Bars all at once because Sprouts was having a deal on them: 4 Quest Bars for $5.00! 8D

Normally, I have seen 4 Quest Bars in a single box go for $8.00 a pop at Target, so 4 for $5.00 is a screaming deal for them! But alas, after I took advantage of that deal, Sprouts had their Quest Barsย marked up again for 2 for $5.00. – ____- Guess they didn’t think anyone would buy that many at once after checking who spent what money on what deals in their store last month, haha. ๐Ÿ˜› But too bad for them because I can get 4 Quest Bars for $8.00 a box at Target across the street instead of spending my money on their Quest Bars for a ridiculous +$2.00 markup. > _>

But nowย thatย I know that 4 grams of sugar = 1 teaspoon of sugar, I’m going to be looking for a cheaper option for energy bars at Costco in February. ๐Ÿ™‚ Can’t wait for that! Costco is basically my happy place you could say. ^ _^

Also had to buy my Propell proteinย powder in bulk on Amazon and my sparkling waters are always around $20 or so a month since I do drink a lot of them. I’m probably going to be trying Costco’s Kirkland sparkling water brand in February and see how I like it! I will at least be getting more for my money that way by buying it in bulk. ๐Ÿ™‚

Household Expenses: $150.46

Ever since starting this category on my Budget Sheets, I didn’t know it could get so pricey! O _O

Some of the stuff I bought can be seen/read about below! ^ _^

2 winter hats: I saw some cheap winter gear at the Frugalpants Grocery Store, or Winco,ย and I just had to buy some of it! So I settled for two winter hats! ๐Ÿ™‚ They were 5 bucks a pop, but at least the price for each hat were better than places like Target where they wants a singleย winter hat for like $15 each. ๐Ÿ˜ก

A black down jacket: Now I know what you are thinking… “Where did Ms.LOC get the money for a new down jacket?!” Well, it turns out that Ross had a down jacket at my size and was selling it for around $32.00! I tried it on and it fit me like a glove, so I took that opportunity to purchase it! ๐Ÿ˜€ But in reality, I only paid around $18 for it since I had store credit there from returning an unused backpack earlier on. ๐Ÿ™‚ And after checking how much other non-discount retail stores wanted for down jackets new, I was absolutely SHOCKED! O _O The tag on the jacket I bought said the jacket was $200 originally and I got it for around $18.00-ish…. Can you say SCORE?! 8D Talk about winning the down jacket lottery! ^ o^

But unfortunately, the down jacket I purchased did not have a hood on it, so I have to wear a hat over my head when I go out in the cold weather with it on. Although I am SO SO thankful I got this down jacket for the screamin’ deal that I did, I would be lying if I did not have hood envy when seeing other people wearing down jackets with hoods on them, haha. ^ _^;

Made in USA Door Rug: So I found this AWESOME Made in USA rug for the front door of the inside of our apartment at Costco! It was $15, but man was it ever awesome! The last one I bought did not absorb water at all, (see the ‘Dirt Rug’ part of blog post), but this new rug did and I absolutely love it! It pays to buy quality! ๐Ÿ™‚

Misc. Items: $49.58

I’m happy this category is so low, haha! ๐Ÿ˜€ The “fun stuff” spending can be found in this category now that I have separated the ‘Household Expenses’ stuff/category out of it. Things bought in this category would be a few Goodwill purchases, Operation Christmas Child items (OCC Items), and a fiddle knife from a Craft Fair. ๐Ÿ˜€ The fiddle knife however was made very well, but the wood was not finished on it, so I will be making it a project one day to finish the wood on the knife when I finally buy some wood coating for it. ๐Ÿ™‚ That way, it will not warp and crack eventually after washing it so many times! ^ _^

Entertainment: $20.65

A little high in this category this month. But then again, I think anything over or around $20 is expensive… Dx; Besides my cheap-o subscription fees to the New York Times ($4.00) and Shonen Jump ($1.99), I also paid an app a one-time fee of $1.99 that was on my iPhone (it’s an “economy model” iPhone, btw ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) to get the commercials to disappear on it and I also rented a movie on iTunes for $3.99. Every Christmas, I always watch ‘Disney’s A Christmas Carol’ and it is still an awesome watch every time! ๐Ÿ˜€

Eating Out: $0.00

Well… O _O I guess I am in the clear here as well! I guess my defense for having a hard zero dollars spent on this category was that it was Christmas and I had to spend a little extra money on Xmas presents (only bought two presents) and other important things as well since I always have so much food to eat at ome anyway. It pays to buy food at Costco in bulk. ๐Ÿ˜‰

And that’s it! ๐Ÿ˜€

And now the grand total comes to… *drum roll*ย

Grand Total: $849.10

Woot woot! Christmas months are always hard if you are really low income unfortunately. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ But I lived, darn it! >:O

I will have January’s Budget Check-In out soon-ish hopefully and I am afraid it was REALLY spendy! O _O But I am hoping February will be better for me and everyone else going forward into the New Year. Dx

How was your budget in December 2018? ๐Ÿ™‚

What I Did This Weekend + My Dumpster Haul! + Konmari Styled Linen Closet (January 26-28, 2019)

Hey, everybody! It’s been so looooooong since I have done a Weekend Update/What I have been up to post, so I am going to be getting back into it today! Come and see what I did this weekend!

On Saturday, LOCMom and I went to visit LOCAuntS! She was doing pretty good and I even gave her a Kirkland brand applesauce pouch to try which she seemed to like! I’m just hoping she finished all of it eventually because I don’t think she was hungry enough to finish the entire pouch, haha. ^ _^; I also told her I would bring her some Macha green tea next time I came over to see her! The cool thing about Macha green tea is that it actually turns your tea water green in your cup instead of that ugly yellow color that most American green tea brands do to one’s tea water. x _o Plus, it tastes better! ;D

After visiting LOCAuntS, I went thrfting and LOCMom bought me a children’s piano (with IOU money, of course ^ _^; )! I’ve been craving to pluck at piano keys for a while now and maybe even learn how to play the piano someday, but after looking up on the internet of how learning the piano is reeeeeally, difficult, I’m just going to put that dream in a drawer for now, haha… O _X;;;

Also, I have an update on LOCFishy Leon. A few days ago, I put Leon in a smaller tank and after a few days, I realized it was killing him. :C So I put him back in his regular 2 gallonย tank and he is happier again. At least I am hoping so. The reason why I put him a smaller tank (1 gallon bowl) was because I though with having less water in the tank, he would not be as cold in it. Well… After reading on the internet, 1 gallon tanks really suck for any fish and they are NOT recommended at all. I learned that the hard way. :’C Hoping Leon will be okay now, but since he is nearing 3 years of age, he may pass away in the near future. Not looking forward to it. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

I also had a wonderful dinner on Saturday! Macha green tea and two clementines, or two Cuties! It was delish, haha. * o*

After dinner, I hung up my laundry I did a few days ago and that is always a chore, haha. @ _@;;;

And on Sunday, I believe I went to Costco and that is always fun. ๐Ÿ™‚ I also got to catch up with many an LOC family member on Sunday and it was great talking to everyone again! ^ _^

Dumpster Hauls!

I still can’t believe what people throw out. It’s crazy! ๐Ÿ˜ก The two craziest items I have found most recently in our apartment complex’s dumpsters or by them was an expensive racing bike (donated it to Goodwill) and most MOST recently, somebody’s FREAKIN’ PASSPORT. I mean, guys… You don’t put your expired passport into a dumpster, more less ON TOP of said dumpster full of trash with your information clear as day on it, and call it good! I’m so happy I spotted it when I did because it was a child’s passport. Bad parenting 101, anybody? – _____-

So I did what any good citizen/person (or parent) would do with an expired passport, or a parent’s child’s passport. I got one of my king-sized Sharpies that I use to block out addresses on my Amazon packages I get and scribbled out all of this young person’s personal information in their passport including the stamps they received when going to other countries. I then gave the passport to our apartment’s office which the staff members there said they would put it in their confidential paper file box to be destroyed appropriately.

There… BAD PARENTING FLAW FIXED. ๐Ÿ˜ก Uggghh… So yeah, that is my fun dumpster story of the week, haha. ๐Ÿ˜›

Now to my hauls!

Check em’ all out! ๐Ÿ˜€

haul 1
Random stuff found in a dumpster. Nothing wrong with any of it… > _> Lunchbox was unzipped so the inside of it could be featured. ^ _^
haul 2
Clothing steamer! Tried it and it works like a dream!
Working label maker! All it needed was new batteries! ๐Ÿ˜€
haul 3
Outdoor sprays/cleaning/house supplies. Btw, that toilet brush was never use/still had its tag on it. ๐Ÿ˜‰
haul 4
Close-up of my new headlamp! All it needed was new batteries and it worked great!

Yup, I scored! ^ o^ I’m keeping half of the electronics I found though and I will be donating the label maker to my new place where I will be volunteering at soon! I kept a few of the cleaning/house supplies that I found and put the rest I did not want outside of the dumpster in a box so other people could take them if they wanted them. ๐Ÿ™‚ I kept the Clorox cleaning wipes and the trash bags though! Those things will definitely will come in handy around the house! ^ _^ The new headlamp I found will work great in emergency situations as well! ๐Ÿ˜€

Konmari Styled Linen Closet!

So, I’m not sure if I mentioned this yet, but in the past I have wanted to be a Professional Organizer. You know, like Marie Kondo but without the Shintoism in her decluttering methods. ๐Ÿ™‚ But they didn’t really work out due to my life situation, so I had to give up that dream up and just declutter stuff by myself in my own living spaces.

And when I declutterย stuff, I do a DAMN good job if I do say so myself! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Marie Kondo also helped me make my life easier with her folding techniques she uses on clothing and other cloth-like items! Thank you, Marie! ^ u^ Because of her folding techniques, I am able to give myself more space inside of my drawers and cabinets so more things can get put into them maybe in the near future!

Anyway, without further ado, check out the decluttered linen closet! 8D

I do not joke when I say I wanted to be a Professional Organizer in the past, haha. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Of course, this entire linen closet is not completely KonMari’d concerning the contents in it. Sometimes I have to use my own folding methods to get things to fit smaller into the closet with some KonMari-ish inspired folding techniques. B) Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the whole picture of linen closet in one shot because it is so long. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ But hey, I hope everyone likes seeing my hard work anyway! ^ o^

So yup, that is basically everything I have been up to. ^ _^ Hoping everyone has a wonderful week!

What have you been up to?
