August 2018 Budget Check-In!

Hey, everybody! Time for August’s monthly budget report! Things were on the spendy side this month because of moving into our new apartment in Folsom, so I had to get many supplies for the house! O _O Come and see how my finances broke down in August! πŸ˜€

Rent/Bills: $500.00

Required monthly payment that I must pay each month for rent and other household bills. Just your usual household bills, nothing too exciting in this category. πŸ™‚

Activities: $0.00

Nothing going on in August because of having get settledΒ into our new home. There will definitely be some activity here in September though since I am due for a haircut soon. ^ _^

Groceries: $165.34

Whew! A little on the spendy side this month! Some of the more expensive itemsΒ were Almond Milk, Quest Protein Bars, Chicken Thighs, and zero calorie canned sparkling water. Usually when things are on the pricey side for grocery items, they are usually bought in bulk throughout the month one buy one you could say. πŸ™‚ I was so ticked off about the Organic Chicken thighs package I bought at Costco though that was around 20 bucks since it had so little chicken in it. Big rip off even if the chicken was organic and me not caring about eating organic most of the time, I only bought the product for the number of boneless chicken thighs I might get in it. But alas, I only got like 12 pieces of chicken when I could have gone to the Frugalpants Grocery Store, or Winco, and bought boneless chicken thighs for less and they have 8-10 thighs per package! Grrrrr, I was so mad. > _<

Unfortunately in September, the chicken thighs at Winco went up to 10 bucks a package instead of 5 bucks a package, so I settled for the bone-in chicken thighs for 5 bucks a package. I like boneless chicken thighs better than the boned ones, but I had to think about my small budget I have to work with every month. Plus, Frugal Me was not about to pay 10 bucks a pop for a package of chicken thighs. πŸ˜›

The Quest Protein Bars and canned sparkling water are also a need for me because I eat these products in order to keep my weight the same, my hunger down, and becuase I do nejoy consuming them. πŸ™‚ Plus, they are all good for you and sparkling water rocks! πŸ˜€ LOCMom says I should just get a Soda Stream and make my own sparkling water, but I do not have the money for one right now unfortunately. 😦 So it is canned sparkling water for me currently. πŸ™‚

Household Expenses: 347.01

AHHHHHHHHHH! This was the most spendiest category of all in August. I was buying stuff like crazy, making returns, etc. But after looking over this category this month, I am very proud to say mostly everything was a need and not just a want or aΒ cheap lifestyle inflation purchase! πŸ™‚

Some noted expenses are:

Under the Sink Mat:Β Had to buy this for our apartment for putting under our new home’s sinks so if there is ever any leaks happening under our sinks in the future, the leaking water will not stain our wooden surfaces. πŸ™‚ Stupidly in August though, I cut a piece of the sink matting I was going to use for my bathroom sink as a thin strip for the bittom of our kitchen sink and totally did not notice until I was done cutting it. Grrrrr… And this stuff ain’t cheap folks. It’s about 13 bucks a pop for only so long a length of matting. πŸ˜₯ I will be purchasing some again soon in the future though. πŸ™‚ Crossing my fingers for no leaks in my bathroom until then!

Shower Curtains: Went to HomeGoods and bought some really cute Tommy Bahama shower curtains for under 20 dollars! I love them a lot. ❀

Hanging Floating Folders/Portable Filing Boxes: I used to put all of my documents in large d-ring binders until I realized LOCMom was rightΒ in the long run that I should be buying portable filing boxes instead to store my important files for easy transport. So I bought 2 packs of hanging file folders from Target and two portable filing boxes from Wal-Mart and I was good to go! πŸ˜€ As of now, I reaaaaally try to avoid spending money at Wal-Mart if I can, but some things are just cheaper there and more affordable for my budget. 😦 I try to avoid shopping at Wal-mart if I can for the most part, but sometimes I just have to for some things. πŸ˜₯

Grocery Bag Hooks: OH MY GOSH, why have these not been in my life until now?!

At our new apartment, we have a staircase that we have to climb up with our groceries after every time we go to the Frugalpants Grocery Store and every time in general just to get into our home. And carrying many a grocery item including bags with your fingers up a staircase hurts your fingers soon enough. πŸ˜₯

So I went on the internet and researched how we could alleviate this problem and I foundΒ THESE! These black hooks I bought are made in the United States and can handle up to a 5 gallon load on one handle! Of course, me having thin arms and hardly any muscle, I cannot carry that much in one hand, but these hooks are a godsend from my hands in general. So thankful I discovered them! ^ o^ Had to buy two pairs in August because of carrying grocery bags a lot upstairs and they have been and still have been AWESOME so far! πŸ˜€

And I could go on and tell you all of the amazing stuff I bought in this category, but I will stop here. πŸ™‚ Like I said earlier, this category was my most spendiest category in the budget this month. Hoping it will not be as spendy in September…

Misc. Items: $60.46

Wow! This category is so low this month! Some fun things I bought this month in this category are a new salt lamp (5 bucks at Goodwill! πŸ˜€ ), a girly pink apron (2 dollars at Goodwill! ^ _^ ), and a glass water bottle (3 bucks at Goodwill!!! ^ o^). And yes, I cleaned the heck out of that used water bottle at Goodwill with a bottle brush I bought at Whole Foods. However, I will be giving the glass bottle a scrubbing again because I bought an even BETTER bottle brush at Whole Foods! πŸ˜€ The bottle brush I bought before had only one scrubby side bristle side on it while my new bottle brush has a scrubby bristle side on ALL sides of the brush! Can’t wait to try it out! πŸ˜€

Of course, the newer bottle brush was more expensive (13 bucks… Dx) because I really felt like I was just paying for the logo, but it was the only brush I have run across ANYWHERE that looked like an effective bottle brush in the long haul. I checked Amazon, Ebay, Bed Bath and Beyond and they did not have any brushes that looked like the newer bottle brush I purchased at Whole Foods. So I consider my newer bottle brush purchase a good score! *thumbs up emoji*

Entertainment: 17.48

Well ever since I moved to Folsom and discovered their ROCK STAR library, this category is a bit on the low side because I do not have to buy my manga reading material for the most part anymore. πŸ™‚ It’s an amazing feeling! πŸ˜€

However, I did score an anime soundtrack CD on eBay after starting an Ebay account in August for under 11 dollars. This CD was a freakin’ steal on eBay and when I saw it going for that much on eBay while perusing the site one day, that CD was the reason I made an eBay account in the first place and bought it immediately afterwards! The CD on Amazon retails for around 30 bucks new/$19 used and when I saw it listed for around $10 on Ebay, you bet I hopped on that deal! The reason I bought the CD is because it has one my most favorite Anime J-Pop songs on it from the anime series Naruto. Here is the song if anyone wants to listen to it. ❀

The reason why I buy anime soundtrack CDs in the first place is because iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, or whatever music platform that is popular is notoriously bad at releasing these J-Pop songs in the States. THEY’RE ALL GUILTY, FOLKS. So I have to buy the CDs for each anime series I like that have the opening and ending songs on them that I have enjoyed listening to in the past from OVERSEAS and then rip those CDs to my iTunes playlist. I then keep the CDs in the end in case I ever have to rip the music again on to another music platform in case I ever get an Android phone or whatnot. So yeah… ^ u^;;;

Anyway, yes! A pretty low budget category for this month! I’m very happy about that. πŸ˜€

Eating Out: $41.24

Okay, I may or may not be over this category by 11 bucks… I can’t remember the limit I set for myself for this category, haha… But yeah, this category for me seems a little high. I believe I counted all of my $5 Friday Safeway food in this category, so that may explain the high amount. One thing to note is the $5 sushi deal I bought about 3 times each friday of the month ending up being $15 in total, but I do not regret it. πŸ™‚ Safeway sushi is delicious and costs less than regular sushi, sooooo…. *drools* The $5 Friday Safeway food I counted though I bought for myself at home if I ever got a craving for something sweet! So last month, I bought a strawberry shortcake and a chocolate cake! ^ _^ The strawberry shortcake has already been eaten, but I’m still working on the chocolate one, haha. πŸ™‚

Hoping to not see this category so high in September! O _O;;;

Budgeted Items: $136.50

The Costco trip this month was quite pricey! Even as a person receiving SSI, I do believe in reserving part of my budget for buying things in bulk because I do believe one saves money in the long run by buying items and food in bulk if it is truly a good deal. πŸ™‚ As a person who likes to eat healthy (and has a small budget… Dx), I really do not go crazy in Costco buying almost anything I see even if I sample it and find that it tastes good. A lot of the food in Costco is just not good for you in the long run I’m afraid, so I just stick to the basics and whatever has a clean list of ingredients and not a lot of sugar. ^ _^

Also for the big number in this category for August, the reason for it was that we just moved into our new apartment and I had to buy my food all over again… O _O;;; So some noted expenses were Premiere Protein Drinks, Kirkland Bacon Bits (made with REAL bacon! πŸ˜€ ), GUM Tooth Picks, Kirkland canned meat, and Kirkland Nut Bars that have only 6 grams of sugar (1 gram = 1/2 teaspoon of sugar) in them per bar. πŸ™‚

I also budgeted this month for some new shirts from Amazon that I just LOOOOOVE wearing! Here is a link to them if ya’ll are interested in looking at them!Β Whenever I run out of my “regular” shirts, I just put these on and wear them around town. ^ _^ The nice thing about them is if they get any stains on them, I just use a Shout stick and get the stains off of them every time I wash them and they’re like new again! πŸ˜€

Love them so much. ❀

Okay everyone, so the grand total I spent in August is…

*drum roll*

Grand Total: $1268.03

Wowee! I was a total Spendpants in August it seems, but a pretty smart Spendypants if you ask me, haha. πŸ˜› It is looking like September is heading in the same direction I’m afraid, but so far, things are pretty good and I am very thankful for how things are going so far even if thing are a little on the spendy side again in September. ^ _^

Looking forward to an awesome September month! ^ o^

Can everyone believe the Holiday Season is approaching us already? It’s absolutely bonkers I tell ya’! Dx

How was your budget in August 2018?

What did I do/buy this Labor Day Weekend? (September 1-3, 2018)

Hey everybody! Happy 3-Day weekend! Hope ya’ll had a lot of fun this weekend and had some great food whatever it was! πŸ˜€ My Labor Day Weekend was pretty active and I had a lot of fun! Come and see what I did this weekend! ^ _^

On Saturday, LOCMom and I went to visit LOCAuntS in a town near us! Since we live closer to LOCAuntS now, we can visit her more often! While at her house, we decided that we would treat LOCAuntS to lunch at her home! I offered to make her my yummy avocado toast recipe and she said she was interested in trying it! I know old people probably don’t eat avocado toast such as millennials myself :P, but I bet she’ll like my avocado toast recipe!

After visiting with LOCAuntS, I went to the local Goodwill in LOCAuntS’s town and didn’t find anything. Booooooooo. 😦 But all is not lost! When I was back in Folsom, I went to Snowline’s 50% Off Everything Sale, which is on the first Saturday of every month, and bought some good stuff! I even found a Gyoza/Pot Sticker press for making pot stickers! I was meaning to make Gyoza at some point anyway because restaurants around here that sell food such as Gyoza make you pay out the nose for a few Japanese dumplings known as Gyoza. Bunch of HIGHWAY ROBBERS! > _< For the little amount of dumplings they give you, I have decided that I am going to make my own Japanese dumplings someday soon and they will be delicious darn it! > _< And I will be able to have as many as I want, haha. ;D

But at the sale at Snowline, the real gem I found was a Vera Bradley makeup bag for under 2 bucks!

SCORE! * o*

When I got the bag home, I examined it and it was slightly used, but after wiping the inside of it with a wet piece of toilet paper, it looked brand new! There was also a snagged thread on the outside of the bag and this wonderful older woman on Facebook who was an expert seamstress taught me how to fix snags! I cannot thank her enough! With her teachings, I fixed my new makeup bag and it still looks great!

I found the Vera Bradley makeup bag in Snowline at the bottom of the bathroom section hiding from all of the older thrifters’ views, so that is probaly why it was still there, haha. xD You betcha’ I snapped that thing up SO FAST and hid it in basket under my t-shirts that I was buying to stick up for the winter time. Didn’t want wandering thrifters’ eyes looking at it and swiping it from my basket possibly. > _> I’ve read horror stories in thrift stores about peoples’ thrifted stuff and I was not about to take any chances. V _v So the bag came home with me! πŸ˜€

After learning how to fix snags, I was all fired up to fix my new peacoat I bought at Goodwill on an earlier date for 10 bucks! Yup, you read that right! 10 bucks! ^ u^ Who says you need to pay out the nose for a peacoat? Well anyway, my new peacoat needs it’s buttons reinforced back on the coat and a few snags and strands fixed to make the coat look in good condition again which is something I can easily do, but it just takes a lot of time… T _T You would be amazed how fast time flies when sewing a button or just when sewing in general, haha. πŸ˜€ It’s a current project I am working on and I hope to have my new-ish peacoat ready to wear by winter time! ^ _^

Money Spent on Saturday

  • Snowline 50% Off Day Purchase (9 items) – $13.00

Total Amount Spent: $13.00

On Sunday, I went to Kohl’s and bought a Levi’s t-shirt that was in the clearance section and a necklace also in the clearance section all for 11 bucks! The most expensive thing was the Levi’s t-shirt since it was from a well known brand, but it looked so cute on me in the dressing room that I decided to buy it! As a frugal person, I do not buy my clothes unless they are in the clearence section or from a thrift store. πŸ™‚ Pants and undergarments are the ONLY things I will ever buy new because sometimes you just have to buy new stuff like that at retail prices. 😦 Booooooooo… :C LOCMom also offered to buy me something, so I picked out 4 shirts from the Kohl’s clearence section that were 4 dollars each! Cheaper than Goodwill! SCORE! πŸ˜€ These days, I just look at clothing just to clothe me instead of trying to look like a frugal fashionista all of the time wearing clothing that requires hand washing… . ______. As long as the clothes look decent on me and do not have any holes in their fabric, visible stains, or make me look like a potato sack, I will wear them! πŸ˜€

Also I was not at Kohl’s on Sunday when I snapped this pic, but I thought this shirt was absolutely hilarious! It was such a throwback to my childhood and if it didn’t look like a dress on me when I tried it on, I would have bought it anyway even though it was from theΒ boy’s section. How comes all of the guys have a nerdy shirt section and us girls don’t at Kohl’s? It’s not fair. Booooooooo. πŸ˜₯

I never made to Oregon in this game… xD

After Kohl’s, I went home and did chores around the house. I also fixed up an older European fairy tale book I found at Snowline since the pages were coming off the lining that held them together. Let me tell ya’ll, it took A LOT of tape and glue from my glue gun… @ _@

Money Spent on Sunday

  • Levi’s T-Shirt – $7.35
  • Necklace – $3.00

Total Amount spent: $10.35

Monday (Labor Day!)

It was labor on Monday and that means Goodwill was having their 50% Off everything sale today! ^ o^ You betcha’ I didn’t miss that one! I went to the Goodwill in Placerville/Diamond Springs, CA and found many a long-sleeved shirt there for the upcoming winter time! Best time to stock up since shirts at Goodwill during their sale were between $2.50-$3.00 each! ^ o^

Check out my haul!

gw haul 50
All under 20 dollars! ^ o^

Not bad if I do say so myself! Pretty much stocked up for the winter time, but I will definetely be buying a few more tops for winter if I ever come across clothing on sale at any thrift stores or regular stores! ^ _^

Later in the evening, LOCMom bought Round Table Pizza for dinner and… Let’s just say I would not visit this particular Round Table again. There was no sauce on LOCMom’s pizza even though she requested light sauce and there was sauce on my pizza, but barely any. > _> Plus, at this particular Round Table we were at, it was very noisy, had the worst eating atmosphere ever (think your typical grade school cafeteria set up), and there were two teenagers who were boyfriend and girlfriend sitting in the corner at a table by the door acting… well… not appropriately for a family restaurant atmosphere. : | I was so annoyed and swore I would never go back to that location. I was so happy that we took our pizza home to eat it that day. The pizza was still good as always despite the sauce problem, but yeah, my experience was terrible. 😦

But for dessert, I had bought a box of Magnum Bars just for Labor Day and I had one! OH MY GOSH, it was sooooooo good! The ULTAMATE! * O* So worth it. ❀

Money Spent on Labor Day (Special Addition Mini Spending Log! :D)

  • Clothing (7 pieces) – $17.00
  • Brown Traveling Wallet (for traveling! πŸ˜€ ) – $2.10
  • New Mouse Pad (mine needed replacing… :C) – $0.60

Total Amount Spent: $20.20

$5 Friday Haul

So on Friday as of last week, I went to Safeway and bought a package of sushi and an ENTIRE cheesecake for 5 bucks each! πŸ˜€

Mmmmm… Cheap sushi! ^ o^

As usual, the food was really yummy! I always enjoy picking up a box of sushi for 5 dollars every Friday since it retails for 7-8 dollars each usually at Safeway during the week. Nice little discount. πŸ™‚ Also bought the Magnum bars while I was there and I’m not going to be having them a whole lot, haha. xD;;;

Since I was NOT going to eat that whole cheesecake in one sitting, I split the pieces up individually and froze them all for snacking on later! ^ _^

And that was my Labor Day Weekend! I had a lot of fun this weekend and I hope everyone else did as well! πŸ˜€

How was your Labor Day Weekend?

What did I do this Weekend? (August 25-26, 2018)

Hey everybody! Sorry for the lack of blog posts during the week. πŸ˜₯ Honestly I didn’t feel like writing any because I felt so out of it. 😦 I also forgot to save my receipts again, so no spending summary for Saturday or Sunday. 😦 Yes, I am not a very good blogger, but man do I try to keep things active around here when I can to the best of my ability… > _<;;; Anyway, come and see what I did this weekend! πŸ˜€

On Saturday, I went to Folsom’s local library to pick up some manga books that I have been wanting to read! I find it even hard to believe now I don’t have to buy my manga anymore except for a few exceptions… O _O Hooray for AWESOME public libraries!

After the library, LOCAunt and LOCCousinR and LOCCousinJ came over to see our new apartment! LOCCousinR really liked our new pad and LOCCousinJ, who is going to be 2 years old soon, enjoyed playing with my younger brother’s old childhood Playmobile toys and plastic vehicles. LOCCousinJ also got to meet my realistic stuffed tiger, Kittybear which he thought was a real tiger! Kittybear, the 100% polyester stuffed tiger, tends to scare everyone when they first see her look at them, haha. πŸ˜› LOCAunt tried to convince LOCCousinJ that Kittybear wasn’t real by lightly batting her around and picking Kittybear up and flipping her all around on the carpet, but to no avail. πŸ™‚ We eventually had to hide Kittybear in the hallway so LOCCousinJ could play with the toys again.

Between playing, we also had chocolate cake and mixed berry pie! Man, does Safeway $5 Friday food from their bakery taste goooooood. πŸ˜€ Before LOCCousinR had to leave with LOCAunt and LOCCousinJ, LOCCousinJ went into the hallway to say goodbye to Kittybear the tiger and hugged her. ^ _^ Hopefully if LOCCousinJ comes over next time, he won’t be as scared of her anymore, haha. πŸ™‚

After visiting with my family, I basically relaxed all day. πŸ™‚

On Sunday, LOCMom and I went to a Mexican food restaurant with LOCMom’s friends in Folsom! I had two enchiladas with refried beans and rice. But maaaaaan, compared to my enchiladas I make (not my recipe of course, recipe here, MAKE THEM. YOU WILL NOT REGERT IT! πŸ˜€ ) they didn’t even come close in yumminess! The beans and the rice were delicious though, but I’m not sure if I would come back and eat at that restaurant since the main meal was just alright. 😦 I also got to meet one of LOCMom’s friend’s Scotty dog who sat with us as we dined out outside! Boy was he ever cute and he was so well behaved when I walked him! πŸ™‚

After our late lunch, LOCMom and I went home and relaxed! πŸ˜€ We didn’t do too much today, but lunch was pretty filling! πŸ™‚

$5 Friday Safeway Deals

I’m going to be adding a new section to my Weekend Updates since I look forward to this every week! At a local grocery store called Safeway, they have deals on some foods and other grocery products where everything is 5 bucks every Friday! I just started going to their sales after all of this time (D’OH! Dx ) and I am always buying a few things there that are 5 dollars when I go! πŸ™‚

Here is my haul for this week!

Cheap sushi rolls at Safeway get knocked down to about 5 bucks every Friday, so depending if I am hungry or not, I will pick up a package of them! This sushi is not high end or expensive in any way, but maaaaan, does it ever taste good! πŸ˜€ Paired with my own soy sauce and you got a little meal going on right here!

Those are chicken sushi rolls if anyone is wondering. πŸ™‚ I could have gotten the fattier sushi roll with the deep fried crumbles on them, but for 5 bucks, I got more sushi rolls in this package of sushi than the other sushi package with the deep fried crumbles on them. In other words… More sushi rolls to eat! πŸ˜€

And last but not least, I picked up a chocolate cake that was, by the way, incredibly moist and delicious tasting! I remember being so full after my sushi lunch that I could not eat dessert, so I stuck with my original plan and cut the chocolate cake into individual slices to freeze so I can munch on them later on individually whenever I am craving something sweet! πŸ™‚

sw cake

So this weekend was pretty fun! Can’t wait to see what next week and next weekend hold! πŸ˜€

How was your weekend?
