Go out and VOTE on November 6, 2018

Hey, everybody! I am planning on putting up a Weekend Update this week, but I did type up this blog post beforehand and it is just a little public service announcement for my United States readers about Election Day next week. I know this blog is not a political blog, but as a person who cares about the United States so much and is a citizen of the country, I just had to say something. Please skip this post or disregard it if you do not wish to read it. Anyway, read and enjoy, everyone! 😀

Hey, everybody! For all of my readers located in the United States, I have somewhat of a public service announcement that I wish to write today.

I know my blog is not about politics, so I’m not going to tell you who to vote for. All I want you do is go out and JUST VOTE. This election is too important not to miss this time around and you would be crazy not to cast your vote in this particular election.

For too long, our current politicians who control the House and the Senate have done NOTHING but close their ears and hum away whether there is yet another mass shooting, locking more innocent immigrant children and adults in cages for just seeking asylum in the United States, licking the boots of the lobbyists of – insert whatever corporation hurting our country’s people and environment here -, and are CONSTANTLY trying cut and take away our Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. It seems like each day that this country and even countries around the world are getting more hateful toward their fellow person who happens to not be the majority in – insert country here – and they take their anger out on these poor people who did nothing wrong to the majority of people who are pointing fingers at them with blame and electing fascist-like leaders in the process (see Brazil’s election most recently). It absolutely disgusts me that this is what the world and the people of our world are coming to these days. After all, a democracy is easily destroyed by voting for “strong man” leaders that say they will fix a country’s problems, but instead destroy the lives of the people who voted for said strong man in it along with the souls who voted against them.

In the United States, we have already followed the same path as Brazil’s election and yes I am going to talk about our current president and his administration now. Trump and his administration, promising to bring back those manufacturing jobs and “Make America Great Again” (or his followers’ favorite acronym for it, ‘MAGA’), have yet to have done this. Where are these great paying factory jobs Trump promised to bring back? I keep looking and I cannot find them being praised anywhere on the internet. Surely a successful man that claims he would bring back these jobs would not hide them from his fans or the public in general. Why would he want to keep them a secret if these jobs are the key to Making America Great Again? But yet, here we are. Or maybe, just maybe… Trump didn’t bring these jobs back. Because these jobs simply do not exist anymore and are never coming back. EVER. A person like our president can claim that you can bring these jobs back, but after two years of nothing to show for your promise of bring said jobs back, one may as well throw in the towel. But yet here are his fans still hoping he will bring these jobs back and sadly, they will be forever waiting for those roosters who will never come home to roost.

We also have a president and the ilk politicians who love him that do not care about the poor in this country. I mean, these politicians control the House and the Senate and may as well be in cahoots with the presidency by not being concerned about where this country’s leadership is currently taking us. I’m more than convinced at this point. : / Honestly, if these politicians currently in power even cared about the poor, wouldn’t they have fixed the poor’s problems by now? And I am one of these poor citizens. Wouldn’t these politicians currently in power have worked with the other side and expanded Social Security so people like me wouldn’t have to live in forced poverty and can’t even save for retirement? Wouldn’t they have increased the amount of food stamp money a poor family gets each month to buy groceries? Wouldn’t more affordable housing be built by now for those being kicked out of their homes who cannot afford to pay their mortgages or rent? Wouldn’t more homeless shelters be built? What the heck happened with healthcare in this country? Wouldn’t we have free healthcare just like the rest if the world at this point?  Why? Why? WHY? WHAT HAPPENED?!!

Instead we have the current people in power like Mitch McConnell saying if his political party stays in power after the elections that they will be trying to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid again. We will all have to call in again to our congressman and senators to fight against the evil perpetrators like Mitch McConnell and his loyal henchmen that try to take away all of these Safety Nets programs that keeps people on SSI like me and the elderly out of poverty. They pull this stunt time and time again and after we call all of our political leaders and tell them to vote NO to the atrocities Mitch McConnell and his flunkies try to pull off and do, they then fail miserably. Thank goodness. BUT THEY DON’T GIVE UP. That’s what’s really crazy. They pull this crap again and again and after we all call in to all of our senators, the Safety Net cutting gets dropped again. And again and again and again.

I could go on all about this forever, but I won’t. If you read this far and I will bold it just to catch anyone’s attention I have lost at this point, PLEASE GOT OUT AND VOTE ON NOVEMBER 6, 2018. We cannot afford to keep the madness that is currently happening dealing with this country’s leadership and the politicians in our Congress and Senate who enable it any longer. I am tired of our current politicians always trying to cut our Social Security and other Safety Net programs so they can spit on the poor even further and give their millionaire and billionaire friends they are beholden to more tax breaks and even more money in some way or another. It makes me sick and IT NEEDS TO END.

To all of my United States readers, please go out and vote on November 6, 2018. Please do your civic duty and GO VOTE. If you are a woman, please go out and vote this election because all of the women who fought and died for your right to vote didn’t die for your voice to remain silent all of your life in our country’s political process. They fought and died for your voice to be heard so you can have a say who runs this country. Please do not let all that they fought for be in vain.

Whether if you are a man or a woman, if you care about Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, VOTE. If you care about people getting food stamps so their family can eat, VOTE. If you care about people having a roof over their heads thanks to affordable housing, VOTE. If you are tired of gun violence being ignored in our country, VOTE. If you care about immigrants’ lives in this country, VOTE. If you care about finally having free healthcare in this country, VOTE. If you care about replacing uncaring politicians who turn a blind eye to the poor like me and to your fellow American citizen who is also poor and your fellow American citizens who are not poor, then VOTE. If you believe all Americans’ lives in the United States matter, then VOTE VOTE VOTE! The power of voting is our power and revolution to change the direction we want our country to go and how it is governed. And if you do not vote, I’m afraid you do not get to have a say of where our country goes from here during this incredibly important election. Also, you don’t get to complain. I realy don’t want to hear anoyone complain about our current leadership after Election Day when they did not even vote this Election Day.

So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, to all who are able in the United States, please got out and vote on November 6, 2018! Our country is counting on you and says thank you!

What did I do this Weekend? (October 28-29, 2018) + Two Announcements!

Hi, everybody! I am SO SORRY there was no blog post last week. 😥 My mental illness symptoms and some depression vibes just hit me like a truck last week and I did not feel like writing anything. 😦 But I feel great today, so I can totally write now! 😀

But first…

An Announcement!

So a few of you know this already and I have not announced it as of yet, but I do have a Facebook page for my blog. A few of my awesome readers have found it seems, so I wanted to make an announcement about it. 🙂

My Living on Cents Facebook page is not entirely set up yet however. It’s been like that for a while… I do have plans to update it, but I have been lazy… for a long time now. Dx I was going to announce it once I had it all set up, but I just decided to announce it now to everyone. 🙂

I would like to link my Facebook page onto my blog, but with this free website blog designed webpage, if I did that, it would feature broken links to Twitter, Instragram, ect. as well. Not very professional. : / So I have yet to have done any social media stuff with my blog until now because of that. : /

But if anyone else would like to follow my Facebook page for Living on Cents, I will link it below! Be sure to follow it because I do post my new blog updates onto it immediately usually. 🙂 Once more though, it is still under construction, but I do post updates there constantly so no one misses a thing! 😀

What did I do this Weekend?

So let’s get started with what I did this weekend! Come and see what I did!

On Saturday, the local library had my books I put on hold ready to be picked up! So LOCMom drove me over there to pick up my books! Now that I live in an area where the library has all of the manga books I’ve been wanting to read, there is no need to buy them anymore! 😀 WINNING! * O*

And when I got home, I saw a moving truck by my apartment. And ya’ll know that means. Regardless if someone is moving in or moving out, the people from said apartment will be throwing out perfectly good stuff by the nearest dumpster by their moving truck. Which happens to be the one by my apartment! 😀

So I scuttled over there as quickly as I could and sure enough, there was “treasure”! ^ o^

And yes, I am a proud dumpster diver, but the most polite, cleanest, courtesy, and kind dumpster diver you will ever meet. ;D You can basically say that I leave the dumpster area cleaner than I found it. 🙂 Now I do not HOP INTO dumpsters, I just kind of “skim” the top of them. 😛  Around my apartment’s dumpsters, you would not believe what people throw away. 😦 For all of the perfectly usable stuff I find in the dumpsters that I do not want, I take it all to one of our local thrift stores and drop the stuff off there. Give it a new home, y’know? 😀

As for the stuff I do find that I want to keep, it is taken into my apartment, sterilized, and is gratefully used! 😀

Check out some of the finds I found this weekend!

Purify Air Rotating Fan – WORKS PERFECTLY! 😀
Made in USA Ironing Board – also works perfectly! 😀
Going/Went to the thrift store! ❤

After finding stuff by the dumpster, I settled in and watched Dr. Reverend William J. Barber, II talk to an audience that is part of a movement call the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival. I am always missing their live videos of their events on Facebook, but I managed to catch this one and WOW! Dr. Reverend Barber really laid down what all of us like myself who have been stepped on and are STILL being stepped on by the rich and other corrupt leaders in our country, whether they be democrat or republican, have been thinking this whole time! It was really nice to be able to hear someone reaffirm that people like me are not crazy, but know the truth.

I’m not going to get to into the things the Reverend talked about here, but I will provide two links below to the Poor People’s Campaign Facebook page and a page on their website about their campaign if anyone wishes to learn more about thier campaign. 🙂 Spoiler Alert: Martin Luther King started the campaign a long time ago. 😀

On Sunday, LOCMom and I went to the mall in a town next to Folsom! My $10 off anything Christopher & Banks coupon was expiring that day and you betcha’ I wasn’t going to waste it! 🙂 Couldn’t really find anything in Christopher & Banks that I wanted, so I bought LOCMom some reading glasses/sun glasses with my coupon. The glasses were I think $12.99, but with the $10 off coupon, they were around $3.50. 🙂 LOCMom liked them a lot! LOCMom also bought me a pink blanket for my bed from Macy’s clearence section that I have been wanting because it is getting colder at night in Folsom. Love it so far! 😀

At home, LOCMom and I made chicken enchiladas as well! Ergo, they could have used more cheese, but we only had so much of it. ;'( But still, they were quite tasty!

YUMMY! ^ o^

Recipe Here!

So that is it for this weekend! Hoping to have a fun weekend next weekend as well! 😀

One More Announcement!

One more small announcement everyone! Next month, since my finances will be back in order, my weekend spending + monthly budget check-ins will be returning next month! So please look forward to them! 😀

How was your weekend?

I was the fish climbing that tree thinking it was stupid

Hey, everybody! Today, I am going to talk about something is near and dear to my heart. It’s been weighing on me for a while and after doing some thinking about it, I have come to terms with myself. Plus, I can’t seem to find many articles to read about this subject on the internet, so I thought I would make my own. 🙂

And my conclusion is:

All of my life, I was the fish climbing a tree thinking it was stupid.

Remember that old famous quote: “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life thinking that it is stupid.”?

Well, after thinking about my past up to this point, I believe I was that fish.

Let me tell you a tale about myself. All throughout my years of grade school, or Kid Jail, I like to refer to the United States School System as or mostly any school system in *insert country here* in general, I eventually realized when I was younger that I was different and was not like the rest of my classmates. I wasn’t better than anyone else and I have made plenty of regrettable mistakes in my days in Kid Jail and even when not in Kid Jail though, but you can say I survived and at least tried to blend in like the average joe mistakes and all. 😥

As for the good things, school taught me the basics such as how to do simple math and write my name in cursive. The more complex things school taught me wad to read and write, which I am ever so thankful for. ❤ Kid Jail even taught me how to use a stove so I could be comfortable around it and in a kitchen when I was older. I even got to do art in class and outside of it during my days in Kid Jail. Looking back, Kid Me was average at art, but was always improving, but Adult Me is always improving as well; getting better and better every time I draw. 🙂 I even had a few wonderful teachers that I will never forget that made Kid Jail a little better to be in throughout the first 18 years of my life.

But besides all of the good things I remember fondly, I was “released” from Kid Jail as a C student. And do you know why that is? Well looking back, after everything, mostly everything I was taught at Kid Jail I have completely forgotten. History facts? Gone. Science facts? Forget about it. Alegebra and Geometry? Who are they again? And even when I try to regain complex knowledge by reading books about nonfictional subjects today, it’s amazing how I don’t remember much after reading most of it. *shrug emoji* I’m guessing my brain is just not the “scholarly” type of brain of remembering really complex facts. 😦 But alas, reading is good for you, so I read anyway! 😀 But yeah, basically I don’t remember a freakin’ thing I was taught in high school or in the school system in general, just the good and bad memories associated with it.

But thankfully, I am out of Kid Jail now THANK GOD. And as I said before, I escaped Kid Jail with a C average. Thinking back, my mind was just not meant for scholarly pursuits and after going to community college time after time and eventually dropping out each time, I realized the school system was not for me. For you see, I love learning about things, but regurgitating facts that school and even college teaches students to do? Ehhhhh, not so much. This C Average Kid says SCREW YOU SCHOOL SYSTEM. 😡

But now I will get to the point of my post. Seeing as the school system gave me a C average and really crappy looking high school diploma for all of my efforts, the school was the tree and I was the fish trying to climb it. I didn’t fit into the school system’s definition of a “Genius”, thus school never taught me how awesome of a person I was all along. I had to stop climbing that tree that all of school stood for and reflect a bit thought wise and after doing so, I realize now that I am an AWESOME person. Screw what the school system thought about me because it has been wrong this whole time.

It took me a while to get to this place in my life where I figured out nothing was wrong with me, but only society who had issues with me. It was not me who failed society, it was society that had failed me. And I have generally accepted this as fact. So in conclusion, I am A TOTALLY FREAKIN’ AWESOME PERSON and society is wrong, dang it! 😡

And I have a list of reasons as to why I am awesome that I had to discover myself and all of them a SUPER AWESOME!

I am into Frugality and love personal finance!

YAAAASSS and that is one of the reasons why I have started this blog about frugality and personal finance! I may not be like most PF/FIRE bloggers out there, but I love the community we all belong to and how we can all relate to each other in many ways! 😀

I am a damn good cook!

Yup! I love the food I make and am happy to eat almost every day! My “diet food”, or now just my regular food, I really enjoy eating and could eat the same day every day without getting sick of it! I must admit this part of my personality is a blessing and I am so thankful for it each day, haha. ❤

I also like to make recipes I find from food blogs on the internet! Most of the recipes I make from these blogs turn out pretty good and I save the recipes from them for future making! Ahhhhh… I am getting hungry now just thinking about all of the recipes that I have saved! 😀

I am most EXCELLENT at thrifting!

And it is quite the passion of mine! 😀 Yes, I am a very good thrifter. You could even say I have a black belt in it, haha. 😉 I absolutely love buying great stuff for almost nothing! ^ o^

And I don’t feel bad about those “poor wittle” department stores that charge retail prices for the same gently used things I buy at Goodwill and other thirft stores for a very cheap price. To me, buying mostly anything at full price at these department store corporations who have more than enough money already, who pay their workers an unlivable wage, and who always dodge paying their taxes, makes my skin crawl. Seeing how the corporate execs at Toys R Us and most recently Sears act only in their self interests concerning piles of cash they get from wherever just because of the store’s company they are running and letting their companies die because of said reason around this money, these companies can all pop off for all I care. I will pay retail prices if I have to on many things, but if there is a better option in the gently used item market or at one’s local thrift store, I will most definitely go there first for all of my shopping needs. 🙂

But yes, thrifting is a great passion of mine and I absolutely love it! I would thrift more often if I could. 🙂

I am a good artist!

And I have been for ALL of my life! My middle school art teacher didn’t give me paper awards for nothing! ;D Although, I was never one of those millennials that just received a trophy for nothing in my childhood, but Adult Me is glad that I didn’t. That would mean I would have to STORE THEM somewhere. > _> Thank goodness I never did get one, haha. 🙂

As Ralph said from the movie, ‘Wreck-It Ralph’, “Turns out I don’t need a medal to tell me I’m a good guy. Cause’ if that kid likes me… How bad can I be?”

Or in my case, I don’t need a medal or trophy to tell the world I am a good person because if people appreciate the me I bring to the world, how bad of a person can I be? 😀 Believe it or not, before hearing this quote when I was younger and just out of school, it really affected how I saw my situation without having won a trophy in my lifetime and I am thankful to have seen such a great movie to go along with the quote. Changed my life really. 🙂

However! My artwork is getting better all of the time and I look forward to improving it year after year as each day goes by 😀

I am a good writer!

This I have recently discovered in my early 20’s after writing many a story that have never completed, but I wish to complete something someday. Still working on my current story, dang it. > _< But someday, I wish to finish at least one story and self publish it for everyone who is interested in reading it. ❤ Whether I become a millionaire from it or not, haha. *insert laugh/cry emoji here*

I LOOOOVE minimalism and organizing!

Ever since turning 18 and discovering minimalism, despite many a bump along the way, I would never take this part of my life out. Minimalism truly gives me happiness and joy each and every day of my life and I can’t  imagine myself ever going back to living like I used to with a bunch of clutter around. Teenage Me would not believe it if I told her that she would become a minimalist someday and think Adult Her was crazy. xD But she just doesn’t know how much an organized and tidied life would benefit her in the future and beyond!

I’m proud of Minimalist Me and wouldn’t change a thing about her in the world. 🙂

So yes, I was a fish climbing a tree and was never told how I was such an awesome person I was in my younger years by the United State’s School System that only valued Grades, GPAs (Grade Point Averages), and memorizing useless facts one would forget years later. Turns out I am pretty awesome person and the school system and society just didn’t let me know it all of this time! I had to figure it out myself in the long run. Thanks a lot, school system and society. > _>

Looking back, life may not have turned out the way I wanted it to be when I was younger, but in general, I am pretty happy. 🙂 I still wish most things in the world will change for the better someday though. ❤

But if your country’s school system and the society you lived in and/or currently live in failed to mention how awesome of a person you are, I’m going to do their jobs for them. YOU who are reading my blog are a fantastic person and are loved very much! Keep rocking! 😀 😀 😀

Were you ever a fish climbing up a tree?
