What did I do this Weekend? (Plus my Goodwill haul + an announcement!)

Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day, everybody! ^ o^

Maaaaaaan, what a weekend! This weekend was very active and I had a lot of fun! I will be including Goodwill haul from today as well, so stick around until the end for that! πŸ˜€

Announcements

But I do have an announcement I need to make. There will not be any Monthly Budget Check Up posts for last month or this month due to real life issues. Sorry everyone, things have been crazy in my life at the moment and you could say it is even ridiculous, so no Monthly Budget Check-Up Posts for last month or in October for those reasons. No mini spending logs either for the Weekend Update posts as well for October too, unfortunately. 😦 I am hoping things will go back to normal next month though. Fingers crossed!

Also, as you have may have noticed, I have been switching my blog’sΒ domain name back and forth and have finally got a .com domain name that doesn’t have the word ‘blog’ in it! Incredibly happy about that! πŸ˜€ So I can say in short, that my new blog’s domain name, ‘http://www.livingoncents.com‘ will probably be permanent. I don’t plan on changing it again anytime soon and I’m pretty happy about it! πŸ˜€ Sorry for any trouble it caused for any of you guys that have my blog bookmarked for future reading. 😦

Weekend Update

Back to the Weekend Update! Come and see what I did this weekend! ^ o^

Saturday

So when I got up first thing Saturday morning, LOCMom reported that the power was out! Again. – _- I don’t know what it is about the area we live in in Folsom that makes the power go out all of the time, but it is dang weird. :/ But after one call to the power company by LOCMom, the power was turned back on! Woot woot!

And since it was the first weekend in October, the local Spendypants thrift store, Snowline, was having their monthly 50% off sale! You betcha’ I went to that sale and bought some stuff! But while waiting in line, I met a woman who was a kindred spirit! She was very nice Β and we had a wonderful chat with each other while waiting in line. πŸ™‚ She told me she loved finding treasures at thrift stores and owned a baby grand piano from Europe! She also played the piano as well, so I bet that baby grand gets a lot of use, haha. πŸ˜€

I couldn’t help but notice from talking to her that she may have been… a person on FIRE (Financially Independent/Retired Early). O _O She even mentioned she used some of her savings for a medical treatment of hers and when I said my goodbyes to her and I went out to the car, I saw her loading her car up and it was a hatchback Subaru. A lady who owns a baby grand piano from Europe driving a hatchback Subaru that DIDN’t look like the latest model of that vehicle. Yup, that screams a person on FIRE if you ask me! πŸ˜€ Or maybe even a secret millionaire! O _O Well, whatever the circumstance was, one could tell she was probably a pretty wise person with her cash. πŸ™‚ A kindred spirit indeed! I just feel bad that if she went back to look at the CDs and how she expressed that she liked the classical music CDs in my basket that she wasn’t going to find very many of them in the CD section because… I’m afraid I bought almost al of them. O _O;;; Forgot to mention that to her if she went to look for other classical music CDs, but I hope she found some good CDs anyway! πŸ˜€ More on my recently bought CDs later! ^ _^

Then after Snowline, LOCMom and I went to visit LOCGrandpa! LOCAunt was there having lunch with him and LOCmom and I visited with him for a while. πŸ™‚ I even put on some music from when he was young that he always enjoyed listening to. ^ _^ After visiting with LOCGrandpa, LOCAunt and LOCMom and I all went to St. Vincent’s thrift store in Sacramento and shopped a little bit there! Unfortunately, LOCAunt had to leave early, but I managed to find a new red fuzzy peacoat, a CD case carrier, and a shirt for the winter time! Gotta’ to get ready for winter, so shopping thrift stores for winter clothes is always a good thing! πŸ˜€

After getting home, that evening up until late at night, I threw myself a CD scanning party! πŸ˜€ All of those CDs I bought for 64 cents a pop at Snowline I ripped to my iPhone and now the songs on them can be enjoyed in a digital format! πŸ˜€ I’m gonna’ become one of those Luddites though because I plan on keeping my CDs that I bought so if I have to rip them to another device that is outside of iTunes someday, I will still have them on me thus not trapping all of my music on iTunes entirely! That is, if CDs are not obsolete by then. If that time comes (and it probably will in the near future), then I will chuck out all of them. πŸ™‚ Preferably recycle them at Best Buy. ^ _^

RIP CD cases! *insert laugh/cry emoji here* I will be using my new CD carrying case I bought at St. Vincents to store all of my CDs for the time being. πŸ™‚

Sunday

On Sunday, we met LOCAunt at our local Costco and had lunch there! For my lunch, I had a few bites of a Churro… For the FIRST TIME EVER! O _O Oh my god… Why haven’t I have eaten this delicious pencil-like donut all of my life? T _TΒ I will definitely be getting another Churro someday in the future! πŸ˜€

And alas, our garage and car were absolutely dirty, so I took that Sunday afternoon to get everything cleaned up! While cleaning the garage, I rescued perfectly good household supplies out of one of our apartment’s dumpsters that I will be donating to a local thrift store! PERFECTLY GOOD STUFF… IN THE TRASH. > _< Ya’ll wouldn’t believe what people throw out around here. Dx

I also gave our new downstairs LOCNeighbors’ child a soccer ball I bought last month at Safeway for $3.50. I had bought four soccer balls from Safeway for $3.50 a pop for the poorer kids in our area around the holidays, but I decided to part with one. πŸ™‚ Their child seemed to appreciate the soccer ball since they do play soccer. πŸ˜€

And that was pretty much it for my Sunday! No $5 Friday haul because we didn’t need anything at Safeway this Friday and I am happy with amount of sweets I have in the freezer already. πŸ™‚

Goodwill Haul

YA’LL READY FOR THIS?! 8D Check out my Goodwill haul I got from Goodwill’s 50% off sale today!

gw haul 10

Minus the blue Trader Joe’s freezer bag, all of this was $50! πŸ˜€ I must admit, some of these items was indeed a bunch of “wants”, but I’m always happy to buy things that make me happy and give me joy at an outrageous discount. ^ _^ But there were some things I did need in this pile of stuff. πŸ˜€

The paper cutter I plan on making a blog post forΒ for a party game that I will be making in the future! The paper cutter will help me cut straight lines for the party game cards I am going to make. πŸ˜€ And then on top of the paper cutter is a Brita filter! Y’know, just sitting there on the Goodwill shelf for a dollar. Snatched that thing up REAL QUICK and I’m hoping it is not too old that it is not usable anymore. 😦 Crossing my fingers! The scarfs and the pea coats I do collect and for each scarf under 3 bucks and the Anne Klein pea coat I bought today for only $6.50, that’s a steal! πŸ™‚ The CDs I bought were mostly Christmas music and for 1.50 a pop for 12-24 songs on each CD vs. one song in the iTunes store for $1.29 each, another steal! πŸ˜€

As for the rest of the stuff, I will either be using, wearing for the winter time, or reading it. πŸ™‚ Now as for that flower towel… Here I thought it was a dish rag, but after closely examining it further, LOCMom informed me it is a towel for wiping golf clubs down! O _o Opps… Well… From what I can tell you, I grabbed this towel for 50 cents because it was from a Hawaiian resort and it was made in Belgium… FANCY! =O That was the main reason why I grabbed it. A fancy dish towel that looked brand new, from a Hawaiian resort, AND was Made in Belgium? Sign me up! πŸ˜€ Don’t know what I will do with it now, but LOCMom says she wants it. We’ll do something with it, I guess. πŸ™‚

There was also a polyester throw blanket I bought for $1.50 that is not in the picture that I was going to use for my computer chair in my room (the seat is getting dirty), but LOCMom loved it and wanted it instead to use for it’s intended purpose though. Happy it got a good home anyway! πŸ˜€

So yes, a very wonderful weekend! Can’t wait for the next! ^ o^

How was your weekend?

What did I do/buy this Labor Day Weekend? (September 1-3, 2018)

Hey everybody! Happy 3-Day weekend! Hope ya’ll had a lot of fun this weekend and had some great food whatever it was! πŸ˜€ My Labor Day Weekend was pretty active and I had a lot of fun! Come and see what I did this weekend! ^ _^

Saturday

On Saturday, LOCMom and I went to visit LOCAuntS in a town near us! Since we live closer to LOCAuntS now, we can visit her more often! While at her house, we decided that we would treat LOCAuntS to lunch at her home! I offered to make her my yummy avocado toast recipe and she said she was interested in trying it! I know old people probably don’t eat avocado toast such as millennials myself :P, but I bet she’ll like my avocado toast recipe!

After visiting with LOCAuntS, I went to the local Goodwill in LOCAuntS’s town and didn’t find anything. Booooooooo. 😦 But all is not lost! When I was back in Folsom, I went to Snowline’s 50% Off Everything Sale, which is on the first Saturday of every month, and bought some good stuff! I even found a Gyoza/Pot Sticker press for making pot stickers! I was meaning to make Gyoza at some point anyway because restaurants around here that sell food such as Gyoza make you pay out the nose for a few Japanese dumplings known as Gyoza. Bunch of HIGHWAY ROBBERS! > _< For the little amount of dumplings they give you, I have decided that I am going to make my own Japanese dumplings someday soon and they will be delicious darn it! > _< And I will be able to have as many as I want, haha. ;D

But at the sale at Snowline, the real gem I found was a Vera Bradley makeup bag for under 2 bucks!

vera
SCORE! * o*

When I got the bag home, I examined it and it was slightly used, but after wiping the inside of it with a wet piece of toilet paper, it looked brand new! There was also a snagged thread on the outside of the bag and this wonderful older woman on Facebook who was an expert seamstress taught me how to fix snags! I cannot thank her enough! With her teachings, I fixed my new makeup bag and it still looks great!

I found the Vera Bradley makeup bag in Snowline at the bottom of the bathroom section hiding from all of the older thrifters’ views, so that is probaly why it was still there, haha. xD You betcha’ I snapped that thing up SO FAST and hid it in basket under my t-shirts that I was buying to stick up for the winter time. Didn’t want wandering thrifters’ eyes looking at it and swiping it from my basket possibly. > _> I’ve read horror stories in thrift stores about peoples’ thrifted stuff and I was not about to take any chances. V _v So the bag came home with me! πŸ˜€

After learning how to fix snags, I was all fired up to fix my new peacoat I bought at Goodwill on an earlier date for 10 bucks! Yup, you read that right! 10 bucks! ^ u^ Who says you need to pay out the nose for a peacoat? Well anyway, my new peacoat needs it’s buttons reinforced back on the coat and a few snags and strands fixed to make the coat look in good condition again which is something I can easily do, but it just takes a lot of time… T _T You would be amazed how fast time flies when sewing a button or just when sewing in general, haha. πŸ˜€ It’s a current project I am working on and I hope to have my new-ish peacoat ready to wear by winter time! ^ _^

Money Spent on Saturday

  • Snowline 50% Off Day Purchase (9 items) – $13.00

Total Amount Spent: $13.00

Sunday

On Sunday, I went to Kohl’s and bought a Levi’s t-shirt that was in the clearance section and a necklace also in the clearance section all for 11 bucks! The most expensive thing was the Levi’s t-shirt since it was from a well known brand, but it looked so cute on me in the dressing room that I decided to buy it! As a frugal person, I do not buy my clothes unless they are in the clearence section or from a thrift store. πŸ™‚ Pants and undergarments are the ONLY things I will ever buy new because sometimes you just have to buy new stuff like that at retail prices. 😦 Booooooooo… :C LOCMom also offered to buy me something, so I picked out 4 shirts from the Kohl’s clearence section that were 4 dollars each! Cheaper than Goodwill! SCORE! πŸ˜€ These days, I just look at clothing just to clothe me instead of trying to look like a frugal fashionista all of the time wearing clothing that requires hand washing… . ______. As long as the clothes look decent on me and do not have any holes in their fabric, visible stains, or make me look like a potato sack, I will wear them! πŸ˜€

Also I was not at Kohl’s on Sunday when I snapped this pic, but I thought this shirt was absolutely hilarious! It was such a throwback to my childhood and if it didn’t look like a dress on me when I tried it on, I would have bought it anyway even though it was from theΒ boy’s section. How comes all of the guys have a nerdy shirt section and us girls don’t at Kohl’s? It’s not fair. Booooooooo. πŸ˜₯

oregon
I never made to Oregon in this game… xD

After Kohl’s, I went home and did chores around the house. I also fixed up an older European fairy tale book I found at Snowline since the pages were coming off the lining that held them together. Let me tell ya’ll, it took A LOT of tape and glue from my glue gun… @ _@

Money Spent on Sunday

  • Levi’s T-Shirt – $7.35
  • Necklace – $3.00

Total Amount spent: $10.35

Monday (Labor Day!)

It was labor on Monday and that means Goodwill was having their 50% Off everything sale today! ^ o^ You betcha’ I didn’t miss that one! I went to the Goodwill in Placerville/Diamond Springs, CA and found many a long-sleeved shirt there for the upcoming winter time! Best time to stock up since shirts at Goodwill during their sale were between $2.50-$3.00 each! ^ o^

Check out my haul!

gw haul 50
All under 20 dollars! ^ o^

Not bad if I do say so myself! Pretty much stocked up for the winter time, but I will definetely be buying a few more tops for winter if I ever come across clothing on sale at any thrift stores or regular stores! ^ _^

Later in the evening, LOCMom bought Round Table Pizza for dinner and… Let’s just say I would not visit this particular Round Table again. There was no sauce on LOCMom’s pizza even though she requested light sauce and there was sauce on my pizza, but barely any. > _> Plus, at this particular Round Table we were at, it was very noisy, had the worst eating atmosphere ever (think your typical grade school cafeteria set up), and there were two teenagers who were boyfriend and girlfriend sitting in the corner at a table by the door acting… well… not appropriately for a family restaurant atmosphere. : | I was so annoyed and swore I would never go back to that location. I was so happy that we took our pizza home to eat it that day. The pizza was still good as always despite the sauce problem, but yeah, my experience was terrible. 😦

But for dessert, I had bought a box of Magnum Bars just for Labor Day and I had one! OH MY GOSH, it was sooooooo good! The ULTAMATE! * O* So worth it. ❀

Money Spent on Labor Day (Special Addition Mini Spending Log! :D)

  • Clothing (7 pieces) – $17.00
  • Brown Traveling Wallet (for traveling! πŸ˜€ ) – $2.10
  • New Mouse Pad (mine needed replacing… :C) – $0.60

Total Amount Spent: $20.20

$5 Friday Haul

So on Friday as of last week, I went to Safeway and bought a package of sushi and an ENTIRE cheesecake for 5 bucks each! πŸ˜€

sushis
Mmmmm… Cheap sushi! ^ o^
cheesecake
GET IN MAH BELLY!!!!11

As usual, the food was really yummy! I always enjoy picking up a box of sushi for 5 dollars every Friday since it retails for 7-8 dollars each usually at Safeway during the week. Nice little discount. πŸ™‚ Also bought the Magnum bars while I was there and I’m not going to be having them a whole lot, haha. xD;;;

Since I was NOT going to eat that whole cheesecake in one sitting, I split the pieces up individually and froze them all for snacking on later! ^ _^

*SNARF*

And that was my Labor Day Weekend! I had a lot of fun this weekend and I hope everyone else did as well! πŸ˜€

How was your Labor Day Weekend?

What did I do this Weekend? (August 25-26, 2018)

Hey everybody! Sorry for the lack of blog posts during the week. πŸ˜₯ Honestly I didn’t feel like writing any because I felt so out of it. 😦 I also forgot to save my receipts again, so no spending summary for Saturday or Sunday. 😦 Yes, I am not a very good blogger, but man do I try to keep things active around here when I can to the best of my ability… > _<;;; Anyway, come and see what I did this weekend! πŸ˜€

Saturday

On Saturday, I went to Folsom’s local library to pick up some manga books that I have been wanting to read! I find it even hard to believe now I don’t have to buy my manga anymore except for a few exceptions… O _O Hooray for AWESOME public libraries!

After the library, LOCAunt and LOCCousinR and LOCCousinJ came over to see our new apartment! LOCCousinR really liked our new pad and LOCCousinJ, who is going to be 2 years old soon, enjoyed playing with my younger brother’s old childhood Playmobile toys and plastic vehicles. LOCCousinJ also got to meet my realistic stuffed tiger, Kittybear which he thought was a real tiger! Kittybear, the 100% polyester stuffed tiger, tends to scare everyone when they first see her look at them, haha. πŸ˜› LOCAunt tried to convince LOCCousinJ that Kittybear wasn’t real by lightly batting her around and picking Kittybear up and flipping her all around on the carpet, but to no avail. πŸ™‚ We eventually had to hide Kittybear in the hallway so LOCCousinJ could play with the toys again.

Between playing, we also had chocolate cake and mixed berry pie! Man, does Safeway $5 Friday food from their bakery taste goooooood. πŸ˜€ Before LOCCousinR had to leave with LOCAunt and LOCCousinJ, LOCCousinJ went into the hallway to say goodbye to Kittybear the tiger and hugged her. ^ _^ Hopefully if LOCCousinJ comes over next time, he won’t be as scared of her anymore, haha. πŸ™‚

After visiting with my family, I basically relaxed all day. πŸ™‚

Sunday

On Sunday, LOCMom and I went to a Mexican food restaurant with LOCMom’s friends in Folsom! I had two enchiladas with refried beans and rice. But maaaaaan, compared to my enchiladas I make (not my recipe of course, recipe here, MAKE THEM. YOU WILL NOT REGERT IT! πŸ˜€ ) they didn’t even come close in yumminess! The beans and the rice were delicious though, but I’m not sure if I would come back and eat at that restaurant since the main meal was just alright. 😦 I also got to meet one of LOCMom’s friend’s Scotty dog who sat with us as we dined out outside! Boy was he ever cute and he was so well behaved when I walked him! πŸ™‚

After our late lunch, LOCMom and I went home and relaxed! πŸ˜€ We didn’t do too much today, but lunch was pretty filling! πŸ™‚

$5 Friday Safeway Deals

I’m going to be adding a new section to my Weekend Updates since I look forward to this every week! At a local grocery store called Safeway, they have deals on some foods and other grocery products where everything is 5 bucks every Friday! I just started going to their sales after all of this time (D’OH! Dx ) and I am always buying a few things there that are 5 dollars when I go! πŸ™‚

Here is my haul for this week!

Cheap sushi rolls at Safeway get knocked down to about 5 bucks every Friday, so depending if I am hungry or not, I will pick up a package of them! This sushi is not high end or expensive in any way, but maaaaan, does it ever taste good! πŸ˜€ Paired with my own soy sauce and you got a little meal going on right here!

sushi

Those are chicken sushi rolls if anyone is wondering. πŸ™‚ I could have gotten the fattier sushi roll with the deep fried crumbles on them, but for 5 bucks, I got more sushi rolls in this package of sushi than the other sushi package with the deep fried crumbles on them. In other words… More sushi rolls to eat! πŸ˜€

And last but not least, I picked up a chocolate cake that was, by the way, incredibly moist and delicious tasting! I remember being so full after my sushi lunch that I could not eat dessert, so I stuck with my original plan and cut the chocolate cake into individual slices to freeze so I can munch on them later on individually whenever I am craving something sweet! πŸ™‚

sw cake

So this weekend was pretty fun! Can’t wait to see what next week and next weekend hold! πŸ˜€

How was your weekend?
